Jesse Jasper

Master of Psychology (Clinical)

Hello, my name is Jesse (he/him). I am a Clinical Psychologist and I help a wide range of people and presentations. The most common aims of the work are to better understand the experience of concern, feel less distress in response to the experience, and to make meaningful change in the experience itself.

The majority of my practice focuses on:

  • anxiety and depression

  • historic or childhood trauma

  • family and intimate relationship difficulties

  • major life changes or transitions

Clients I have worked with often first arrive to therapy with a distressing experience, but also feelings of confusion, frustration, embarrassment or shame about the fact that they experience it at all. We can often make change in the experience itself, but more commonly, the ability to understand and accept why the experience occurs leads to an easing of distress prior to that change being made.

About Me

While I was trained primarily in CBT and draw from other therapeutic frameworks, I am a strong believer in the benefit of taking a collaborative and flexible approach to therapy. I openly invite questioning of the concepts or approaches discussed in therapy, and view frameworks and concepts as tools to be applied and reviewed, with a full appreciation of the fact that not every tool is right for every person at every time.

I also believe that tools, strategies, and descriptions of what is happening in your experience are made significantly more meaningful and helpful when there is a clear rationale for why that tool or strategy could be helpful for a situation, or why you may have a certain experience in response to an event. The understanding of the 'why' is the difference between developing coping tools and developing the skills to adapt and apply coping tools to new situations or challenges you may face in the future. Exploring and explaining the 'why' is an important part of my practice.

I take an integrative approach to therapy, tailoring evidence-based interventions to each unique individual. I am trauma-informed, gender-affirming, and neuro-affirming.
