Daniel Demellis

Master of Social Work (MSW)

Hello, my name is Daniel (he/him). I am an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and psychotherapist. I support people to make sense of overwhelming experiences, navigate psychological and relational patterns, and foster a greater sense of wellbeing.

The majority of my practice focuses on:

  • enduring impacts of traumatic exposure, including trauma reprocessing

  • dysregulated emotion states and nervous system experiences

  • fragmented relationship patterns to self and others

  • challenges associated with complex PTSD and personality disorder

My clients often come to therapy feeling confused, overwhelmed, and isolated. After working together, they typically develop a greater sense of understanding, acceptance and connection to life.

About my work

Good Therapy is founded by Daniel Demellis (he/him), an AASW Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with postgraduate studies in a Master of Social Work. Daniel is a queer-identifying psychotherapist and brings seven years of experience in providing clinical mental health support to adults from many walks of life. Daniel seeks to harness the therapy relationship as a vehicle in supporting people to make sense of overwhelming experiences, navigate psychological and relational patterns, and ultimately, to foster a greater sense of wellbeing.

Daniel’s practice is largely centered in working with trauma survivors, including those who have experienced childhood abuse and neglect. He often works through a phased-based approach to trauma treatment which is sensitive to the impact of emotion and nervous system dysregulation, dissociative experiences and a fragmented sense of self. Daniel holds curiosity towards the longstanding impacts of early adversity and has an interest in collaboratively reprocessing traumatic memories using evidence-based techniques such as EMDR.

Daniel is an integrative practitioner and draws from a range of evidence-based psychotherapeutic approaches – including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), and Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS). Additionally, he is currently undertaking accredited training in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT). Outside of private practice, Daniel works as a senior clinician in the public mental health sector, within a specialist service for people with a lived experience of complex trauma and personality disorder.
