Dr Liz Murdoch

Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours), Masters (Sport & Exercise Psychology), Masters (Professional Psychology), PhD (Sport Psychology)

Hello, my name is Liz (she/her). I am a friendly, genuine, empathetic psychologist who works collaboratively with clients to ensure they feel understood and empowered to be the best version of themselves. I deliver a holistic, client-centred approach and create a safe space to encourage individuals to navigate a life aligned with their values and personal goals

The majority of my practice focuses on:

  • anxiety and depression

  • stress, burnout, and perfectionism

  • body image and womens' health

  • performance-related issues (e.g., sport, school/university, or work-related)

In addition to the above, I have a special interest in working with the sporting population and performance-related issues. I have specialised training in sport and performance psychology. One focus of my practice includes working with athletes and performers across the following areas: athlete identity, navigating transitions in sport (e.g., injury, life after sport), team dynamics, and performance-related issues. I believe in working with the human rather than solely focusing on the athlete, to promote understanding and build tools which can be applied in high-performance environments.

About Me

My passion for helping individuals is derived from my own experiences in elite sport, bringing a unique perspective to my practice. I have a strong swimming and rowing background, and continue to be involved in competition and the sporting community.

I currently work with North Melbourne Football Club as their Performance Psychologist and the AFLPA network. I continue to work with the following sports in an individual capacity - swimming, athletics, rowing, hockey, football, rugby union, and rugby league. I also work with performers from The Australian Ballet.

Outside the therapy room, you’ll find me at the pool, skiing down the mountains, reading a book in the sunshine, or spending time with quality humans.
