Olivia Burton

Bachelor of Applied Science (Psychology), Graduate Diploma of Psychology, Master of Clinical Psychology, MAPS

Hi, I'm Olivia (she/her), a clinical psychologist working with people navigating the overlap of attachment trauma, neurodivergence, and personality disorder related difficulties.

If you've spent your life being told you're 'too much,' 'too sensitive,' or even 'bad', I want you to know that's not the whole story. Together, we'll make sense of your unique experience, ease the overwhelm, and build a foundation for calmer relationships, both with others and with yourself.

I work most often with:

  • anxiety and emotional overwhelm

  • attachment wounds and trauma

  • neurodivergent experiences

  • personality disorder related difficulties

Clients I work with often describe feeling more grounded, more self-compassionate, and better equipped for relationships, with tools that keep working long after therapy ends.

About my work

My approach is trauma-informed, gender-affirming, and neuro-affirming. I draw on DBT to help you build real skills for emotional regulation; CBT and Schema Therapy to understand how earlier experiences still shape you today; and ACT to help you reconnect with what matters most and make changes that actually stick. Above all, I aim to create a space where you feel safe, understood, and never pathologised.

Collaboration rather than authority

I see therapy as something we build together. You are the expert on your own experience, and my role is to bring psychological knowledge, curiosity and a different perspective — not to tell you who you are or what you should do.

Curiosity rather than judgement

I approach your experiences with curiosity rather than judgement. Even when something feels confusing, unhelpful or difficult to change, I want to understand what it is doing for you before we decide whether it needs to change.

Autonomy and choice

I believe you should have a genuine say in what we work on and how we work on it. I will explain my thinking, invite your perspective, and make space for you to tell me when something doesn't feel right or isn't working for you.

No need to perform

You don't need to have the “right” words, know exactly what you need, or present a polished version of yourself in therapy. There is room for uncertainty, humour, frustration, contradiction and the parts of your experience that are harder to put into words.
