Dr Michael Spurrier
Diploma of Visual Arts, Bachelor of Arts & Sciences, Bachelor of Sciences (Psychology; Honours), Doctorate of Clinical Psychology, PhD (Psychology)
Hello, my name is Mike (he/him). I am a clinical psychologist and relationship therapist. I help adults to overcome problems and connect with themselves and others.
The majority of my practice focuses on:
trauma (including PTSD, complex trauma & unmet childhood needs)
relationships and attachment
ADHD and neurodivergence
self-worth, behaviour and emotion regulation issues (including depression, anxiety & addictive disorders)
My clients often come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck or disconnected. Through therapy, they learn to recognise the patterns leading to problems and distress, and practice the skills most helpful for dealing with them.

About my work
I currently offer therapy for individuals and people in relationships. I have experience working with:
adolescents, adults, families, partners and groups
treating a range of issues and diagnoses
applying several evidence-based treatment modalities
I believe building a secure, authentic therapeutic relationship is essential for effective therapy. I aim to work transparently and collaboratively with you, so that you can feel comfortable exploring the material you want to work on. I can help you to discern the patterns emerging in your life and relationships, to better understand their origins, why you react the way you do, and what you may need.
From this foundation, we can develop a framework, and practice the skills you need to:
better regulate yourself
do less of the things that hurt, or cause problems, and
make decisions - to think, act and react in ways that better serve your goals.
I believe that doing this work can help you to:
support yourself
connect better
experience greater meaning and enjoyment from your life and relationships.
I’m passionate about, and enjoy supporting people from a variety of backgrounds, including people wishing to explore aspects of identity, neurodiversity, sexuality, gender and relationship dynamics.
I am trauma-informed, gender-affirming, neuro-affirming and culturally-sensitive in my practice.
