A WPATH assessment is a psychological assessment that supports access to gender-affirming medical treatments such as hormone therapy or surgery. Assessments follow the guidance of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health Standards of Care and are conducted in a gender-affirming and respectful way. The purpose of the assessment is not to determine whether someone is “trans enough.” Instead, it helps document readiness for treatment, ensure informed decision-making, and provide supporting documentation where required by medical providers.
Assessments may be requested for:
gender-affirming hormone therapy
chest surgery
facial surgery
other gender-affirming procedures
surgical readiness documentation
Requirements vary depending on the procedure and treating medical team.
