Stress & Burnout FAQs
How do you know if you’re burnt out?
Burnout isn’t just feeling tired. It’s a mix of exhaustion, numbness, and detachment that leaves you emotionally drained, mentally foggy, and at risk for other mental health challenges like anxiety and depression. It’s human to feel overwhelmed and stressed occasionally, but when stress sticks around for too long or spirals out of control, it can lead to burnout.
How can stress therapy help?
Stress therapy can help by teaching you how to manage stress triggers without overwhelming emotions taking over your mind and body. We use a combination of therapies, from cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) to schema therapy, to help you respond to your thoughts rather than react.
What’s the difference between stress and burnout?
Stress is a temporary whole-body response to an external or internal stressor, such as giving a presentation at work, or navigating a difficult conversation. Burnout is a prolonged state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion caused by chronic stress.
Do I need a referral?
No, you don’t need a referral to see a stress psychologist. However, if you want to claim Medicare rebates, we recommend discussing your eligibility for a Mental Health Treatment Plan with your GP.
