Dr Erin Hoare

Bachelor of Psychology (Hons), Master of Public Health, Master of Educational Psychology, Doctor of Philosophy

Hello, my name is Erin (she/her). I am a Psychologist and I help people in high performance settings navigate challenges and strengthen connections with themselves, their communities, and their systems.

The majority of my practice focuses on:

  • high performance (e.g., sports, performance arts, public leadership)

  • ADHD

  • Autism

  • Neurodivergence and intersectionality (women and girls, LGBTIQA+)

My clients often come to therapy disconnected from themselves and their communities, but after working together, they typically feel strengthened connections and robustly equipped with new knowledge, strategies, and understandings.

About my work

I am a Registered Psychologist (Educational and Developmental Registrar), Associate Professor of Neurodiversity and Mental Health, and former professional athlete. I am committed to neuroaffirming, gender-affirming, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive psychological practice. I am regularly engaged with contemporary scholarship regarding neurodiversity approaches, ensuring self-determination for neurodivergent people.

In my approach, I often embed a focus on environmental drivers of mental health. For example, environmental sensory adjustments may be an area of exploration in the context of anxiety. I recognise the central role of cultural, societal, and historical experiences such as trauma, discrimination, and displacement have upon mental health and wellbeing. I hold strong awareness and remain responsive to such experiences as inseparable to mental health.

Referrals are accepted in the context of multi-disciplinary teams, as aligned with the Australian Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guidelines for ADHD, and the National Guideline for the assessment and diagnosis of autism in Australia. This is also a practical policy to ensure maximum resource efficiency for clients, such as in the context of ADHD where medical management might be sought which a psychologist in not able to provide. This means that referrals for assessments must be made to Erin from the supporting GP, pediatrician, psychiatrist, psychologist, allied health, or other professional only.
